People Help People

"Health to grow. Education to believe."

Mission

The mission of People Help People Corporation (PHP) is to contribute to the technical-professional formation of rural youth from the Regions of los Lagos and los Ríos, Chile, so that they may acquire the skills to enhance their quality of life.

Profile

PHP participates in the construction and administration of elementary schools, technical high schools, dormitories and local health centers in zones with a high number of Mapuche population. Today, more than 2,000 children study for free in our educational establishments in the rural zones of the X Region of Chile. In these institutions, students graduate with a practical occupation like agricultural or forestry technician, plumber, electrician, or in gastronomy. This tool allows them to pursue a career within these fields or to immediately begin working. The academic staff which provides technical training for specialties are outstanding professionals in their fields and offer their expertise to students.

The good work of PHP is inspired in human values. The development of society depends on the integral development of those who form part of it. For this reason, our corporation emphasizes performing global work that considers all aspects of reality: providing housing for students who travel long distances, teaching professions that offer a future in the region, caring for the health of the villagers, and encouraging the development of fragile communities.

Results

PHP believes and has demonstrated through 23 years of experience educating young Chileans that students share the same potential and, once granted equal access to education, obtain strong academic results and, more importantly, leave our establishments as quality individuals.

Our students boast excellent qualifications on the national Simce examinations, which measure the quality of education in schools throughout the country. Our graduates have also earned high scores on the PSU, a test which grants access to Chile’s universities, allowing them to continue their education at some of the country’s most prestigious institutions. Perhaps more importantly, more than 80% of our alumni have successfully gone on to work in the fields they studied during their vocational secondary education at PHP.

The success of the model of People Help People schools has also attracted the interest and support of the European Union who, together with the Latainamerika Zentrum (LAZ) fund, funded €750,000 for the construction of our new Panguipulli Polytechnic School.
