Harmony Public Schools
"Excellence & Equity in Science and Math Education"Mission
The mission of Harmony Public Schools is to prepare students for higher learning in a safe, caring and collaborative atmosphere through a quality learner-centered educational program with a strong emphasis on math, science, engineering, and technology. In this environment, we promote high expectations for all students while focusing on differentiated instruction to meet each student’s needs.
Profile
The Harmony School model is rigorous (prepares students for college), relevant (reinforces math and science skills) and is underpinned by a tight web of relationships (a strong culture reinforced by teachers and parents). We attribute our strong outcomes to three core principles within the school model, reinforced by the use of technology across all of these dimensions:
Challenging curriculum
• Harmony provides a challenging math and science curriculum supported by theory
• Students are grouped by their skills to maximize educational outcomes
• Our curriculum meets the Texas Distinguished Achievement program and offers honors and AP coursework
Ongoing assessment
• We utilize continuous assessment and prep exams to promote high passing rates
• Teachers are given flexibility in teaching and are not constrained by the testing focus
• The mandatory use of the technology-enabled student database by teachers allows for information to be consistently updated
Culture of high expectations
• We emphasize constructive competition to enable academic achievement to be the primary focus of our students
• The discipline point system allows teachers to focus on instruction, not discipline
• Our database allows students, teachers and parents to access and monitor discipline history
• Our character education cultivates a community of respect
Results
Harmony continually measures its success according to our mission and targeted impact. Our stated goal is for all Harmony students to graduate high school and to enroll in a 4-year college with the skills needed to succeed. To date, all of our graduates have gone on study at a Higher Education Institute and we boast a 0% high school drop-out rate, with no violence on our campuses.
Half of Harmony Schools are rated EXEMPLARY by the Texas Education Agency (the highest possible rating) while others are rated Recognized (the second highest rating). Our schools were also highlighted among the best schools in the country by US News and World Report’s Best High School list.
The achievements of Harmony Schools have been acknowledged by many community members, policy makers and organizations such as NASA, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Office of Naval Sciences, the Society of Women Engineers, the United States Army and many more.
Harmony students have also been recognized in countless academic competitions. Recently, a Harmony Campus Robotics Teams qualified to represent the United States in the European Open Championship Robotics Competition in Denmark.
