Fundación Belén EDUCA

"Noticeable Quality in Education"

Mission

The mission of Fundación Belén Educa is to provide quality education to children and youth of scarce resources, developing a Catholic program, providing a curriculum of excellence and prioritizing the role of the family.

Profile

Belén Educa is a private, non-profit foundation that aims to construct, implement and set up high quality Catholic schools for impoverished Chilean boys and girls.

Since 2000, we have created eight schools in the poorest communities of Santiago in order to meet this objective. All of our schools offer an excellent teaching staff who are dedicated to their vocation and who believe that quality education is possible even in the most vulnerable sectors of society. Our schools also offer an excellent infrastructure with more than 40,000 m2 of facilities including computer science laboratories offering one computer for every student, English labs, music rooms, libraries and multi-purpose fields.

We emphasize the importance of imparting career-oriented skills and our program enables students to choose from one of four technical/professional specialties: Telecommunications, Gastronomy, Construction or Administration.

Results

Since 2000, we have achieved significant results including:

• achievement above the national average on standardized Simce exams
• a 0.1% drop-out rate
• 47% of graduates in 2007 having gone on to higher education
• being named a school of ‘Academic Excellence’ by the Ministry of Education

More than 300 of our students are currently completing internships, a key prerequisite to obtaining the professional/technical qualification awarded during the final years of high school.

At the national level, only 40% of students achieve this vocational qualification because they cannot access the necessary internships and apprenticeships. In our schools, however, an overwhelming 98% of students earn their professional/technical qualification.
