Chicago International Charter School

Mission

The mission of the Chicago International Charter School is to provide, through innovation and choice, an attractive and rigorous college-preparatory education that meets the needs of today's student.

Profile

Chicago International is the largest charter school in Illinois with over 8,000 students from Pre K through 12th grade at 13 neighborhood campuses. Approximately 69% of our students are African American, 24% are Latino and the balance is a mix of Asian, Indian and Caucasian. Most students come from homes with limited means as evidenced by the fact that 80% participate in the Federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program. Our students come to us with varying degrees of tangible academic skills, but the common thread for these students is a willingness and desire to work hard; to learn in a caring, nurturing environment; to embrace the vision that each individual student can attain college admission; and to build on their own inherent strengths to achieve these goals.

Results

Chicago International Charter School has a remarkable record of achievement including:

• High School graduation rate of over 90%
• CICS Northtown class of '08 scored a composite 20.1 on ACT (first non-selective Chicago Public School to break the 20 barrier)
• CICS Class of 2010 average composite ACT - 19.1
• 13% of CICS 8th graders in 2009 have been accepted into selective enrolment high schools
