3es Federation of Schools

"The education specialists"

Mission

The 3es Federation of Schools seeks to redefine success in schools. It is a community of inspirational schools which, like all other schools, aspire to ensure 'Every Child matters', every child achieves.

Profile

3es is part of Faber Maunsell - the internationally renowned building, transportation and environmental engineering consultancy. As the first private company to take over the management of a state school in 1999, 3es established itself at the forefront of UK school project management services. Our portfolio includes overseeing the complete organisation, curriculum implementation and refurbishment of existing schools, to project managing the development and opening of the next generation of schools.

The 3es Federation of Schools was created in 2001 as a formal means for schools which we have worked with to collaborate together, disseminate good practice, and raise standards. The 6 principles which distinguish 3es schools and colleges are:

1. Student success is defined by personal skills, attributes, learning and achievements
2. Students can commission their own learning
3. Student involvement is central to the direction of our schools
4. Our ethos is vibrant lively and sparky
5. The school leads the educational regeneration of its community
6. Leadership

The schools are equipped with the latest videoconferencing and Internet technology to conduct shared lessons and joint research. This is particularly useful in delivering unusual subjects, such as Japanese, where there is a shortage of teachers. The Federation also provides training for current teachers and for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) students via its virtual classroom.

Results

3es schools have shown marked improvements in recent years. For instance, Baxter College, a once failing Kidderminster high school has undergone a sensational turnaround in just two years – with a massive 61% increase in the number of students. 2006 saw a five percent increase in the A-level pass rate and the attendance rate has improved by 2.5 percent to 87.5 percent. In the latest results, all but eight pupils achieved greater than their anticipated score at GSCE and only two youngsters left without qualification, having found jobs and left early. Previously, more than a quarter of pupils were leaving without qualifications.

Similarly at King’s College, the GCSE pass rate has risen from 10% in 2000 to its present rate of 53%. In addition, College has been the recipient of a considerable number of awards. It was the first Fresh Start school in the country to gain Specialist School Status. The college has also gained the Arts Mark Silver Award, is an Investor in People and was the first secondary in the country to gain the ICT Mark Award.
